He had to borrow £20 million and subsequently fund raise from the rich and famous to allow the project to go ahead. Now the House has been transformed into a major tourist attraction including the world's finest collection of Thomas Chippendale furniture. His vision is to create a new eco village on the estate, Knockroon, with up to 600 homes. There is also a working farm, using organic and environmentally friendly techniques. One of the old buildings, the factor’s house, has now been restored and is operating as a guesthouse. They have recently joined ABBA, recognising the many benefits of our Association. Three of our members, The Old School at Dalleagles, Ardwell in Mauchline and Laigh Tarbeg near Ochiltree are situated close by – handy for visiting Dumfries House.
