Largs businesses are to come together to try to raise tens of thousands of pounds to boost the town’s appearance and fortunes. A very well attended meeting at the Brisbane House Hotel paved the way for business people to vote to set up a B.I.D. organisation for investment in Largs. Newly appointed BID manager Sunil Varu who has been involved in similar successful schemes throughout Scotland said that it would be led by local businesses, not the council or goverment. He pointed out “The businesses invest together to improve the business environment”. After a questionnaire survey a Largs business plan will be produced around the priorities set out by the local shopkeepers, trades and professions. North Ayrshire Council economic advisor Jim Cumming said that a ‘shop Local’ scheme could be established to boost the incomes of businesses and already shopfront improvement grants were being given for more than 20 premises in Main Street.
